More Than a Brand. More Than Clothes. Thoughtful Ethical Clothing.
Just a few months ago, Freecoast Co. launched its website in May, 2017. A sustainable clothing brand that tailors its products for teens and young adults, the company is an alternative to big-name, fast fashion brands who source their clothes from sweatshops in foreign countries.
“I was always a big fan of American clothing brands for casual wear.” recalls Jackie Torres, the founder of Freecoast Co. “It never struck me to look at where my clothes was made until the collapse of the sweatshop in Rana Plaza in Bangladesh which killed over 1,000 people in 2013. That was a huge reality check. I had never realized my American brand clothes were potentially made in sweatshops by children in such awful conditions. I just couldn’t understand how these brands representing freedom could be made in this way.”
The truth is it’s not simple for brands who source their clothes in underdeveloped countries to know exactly which factories their clothes are coming from, unless they continuously visit the sewing facilities.
Transparency is a huge issue in the fashion industry, and while companies say they are trying to change that, in reality there are still many gray areas to be addressed.
The ethical clothing brand sources all its products from sweatshop free facilities in Los Angeles, California.
“We’re currently working with two well established American corporations, known for high quality products. In the near future, we hope to expand our product line and work with more local American suppliers.”
So what is Freecoast Co. really all about?
Clothes is all about expressing your personality, the way you’re feeling, your values and convictions, and also about how the clothes itself feels.
Freecoast is there for the consumer who looks for something more than a cute tee with a dubious origin that will last two seasons. It’s an ethical and sweatshop free clothing brand that puts people, everyone in the supply chain, and freedom first.
